Since photography was limited and expensive in the past, this style was used to sometimes accommodate a picture of a single person or even a divorced person.
Please note that colors vary on various monitors and printers.
You could even put this on a disc or flashdrive and take it to your local Walgreens or Walmart and have it printed.
Recommendations: Print on photo paper and then use an x-acto or carefully use scissors to cut out the white area.
Tape your photo to the back and then frame. Beautiful and thoughtful handmade gift.
